With its premiere approaching, Law and the City has released teasers and cast comments to draw in prospective viewers.
Law and the City is a story about the joys, sorrows, and growth of five associate lawyers who work at law firms located in the Seocho Judicial Town.
The teaser gives a glimpse of the hectic lives of associate lawyers as they head to Hyungmin Building in Seocho Judicial Town. Ahn Joo Hyung (Lee Jong Suk), who doesn’t care about wins or losses and bombards clients with facts, boasts exceptional skills. Kang Hee Ji (Mun Ka Young), a first-year associate lawyer new to Seocho Judicial Town, is winning over the townspeople with her passion and excellent interpersonal skills. Bae Moon Jung (Ryu Hye Young), who rushes around due to being late every day, bluntly utters harsh words upon seeing the word “loss”.
Ha Sang Gi (Im Sung Jae), a capitalist, enjoys small pleasures by earning small amounts during his short commute to work. Though each of them is navigating tough life in their own way, the hardships felt by employees bound to a company come through clearly. From clients who treat people insignificantly and throw around abusive language, to moments when physical fights break out, sorrow seems to outweigh excitement in these lawyers’ lives.
Cho Chang Won (Kang You Seok ) saying, “Maybe being a lawyer just doesn’t suit me,” echoes a relatable sentiment that any office worker has likely thought at least once.
But even in their unexciting days, there are moments of peace. Gathered around the meal table, each carrying worries and concerns, the associate lawyers share words of encouragement like “We have all worked hard.”
Lee Jong Suk commented, “Law and the City is a project that made me realize how grateful I am for collaborative works.” He continued, “While filming, I came to believe that one of our drama’s greatest strengths was the actors themselves. It was a set where we could talk about our characters, emotional arcs, and scenes, ask questions when we didn’t know something, and learn a lot.”

Mun Ka Young shared, “Even during breaks, we kept practicing the tempo of our scenes and lines, and over time, we came to understand each other without needing to say much.”

She added, “Just as Hee Ji finds dependable friends in Seocho Judicial Town, I, too, gained some lovely older oppas and unnis through Law and the City, which makes me really happy and I’m at ease.”
Kang You Seok commented, “At the beginning of filming, things were a bit awkward, but once we got closer, we exchanged a lot of ad-libs and spent our breaks together, often talking about the script.” He continued, “We didn’t just talk about the project, but also the concerns about acting and our personal lives. The others gave me so much advice as seniors, so it was only natural that our chemistry turned out to be so solid.”

Ryu Hye Young shared, “Because we all got along so well, we were able to capture the real-life bond and synergy among the five of us in the scenes where the five of us are together. While working on Law and the City, whether on set or off, we rarely let go of the script and constantly talked things through to create the best possible scenes.”

Im Sung Jae also shared a behind-the-scenes story, saying, “Usually during waiting time, everyone stays in their own space to prepare for the next scene, but with Law and the City, it was the first time we got together — even for scenes we weren’t in — to discuss and talk.”
He added, “No matter how close you are, suggesting different acting approaches can be a sensitive issue [for us actors]. But perhaps because of the deep trust we had in each other, we often made suggestions and discussed things.”
Law and the City premieres on July 5. The K-drama will be available on Disney+ (select regions). Watch the new teasers here and here.
