Liam Neeson is headed to Netflix this September with his latest action thriller blockbuster, Ice Road: Vegeance, confirmed to hit Netflix in the United States on September 15th, 2025.
Serving as a sequel to The Ice Road, which took place in the frozen north, this new 2025 entry takes the action to a new and even more perilous location: the Himalayas. The film follows big rig driver Mike McCann (Liam Neeson) as he travels to Nepal to scatter his late brother’s ashes. While there, he becomes entangled in a high-stakes conflict, fighting ruthless mercenaries to protect a busload of innocent tourists and a local village. The movie is a testament to the fact that wherever there’s a dangerous road, Neeson will be there to save the day.
Jonathan Hensleigh returns as writer and director of the sequel. Hensleigh is well-known in the action genre, having also written screenplays for blockbuster films like Die Hard with a Vengeance, Jumanji, and Armageddon.
The film features a talented international cast:
- Liam Neeson (The Naked Gun, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace) as Mike McCann
- Fan Bingbing (The 355) as Dhani Yangchen
- Bernard Curry as Donny (Impact Earth)
- Grace O’Sullivan (The Royal Hotel, The Secret She Keeps) as Tara
Reviews for the movie from both critics and audiences alike have been lacklustre, with many confused as to why Ice Road is still in the title. ScreenRant was among the small few who did enjoy it, however, writing in their review, “Ice Road: Vengeance is a dramatic and intense action thriller that makes great use of all the tools at its disposal, and has a great story.”
Netflix does have a connection to the action franchise, having carried the original movie exclusively in many territories with Netflix Original branding, including in the United States, where it continues to reside to this day. The streamer holds the rights to that film, at least in the United States, through to 2051. At least eight other regions are also streaming the first movie, albeit without Original branding, including the United Kingdom and Latin American territories.
For the second movie, the distributor Vertical opted for the theatrical route, where it premiered in select theaters beginning June 23rd, 2025. Now, 87 days later, the movie will stream on Netflix following its VOD release.
Vertical Entertainment has licensed many of its films to Netflix in the United States in the first window below. Late last year, Netflix served as the SVOD debut platform for Eric Bana’s A Sacrifice, plus titles like After Math and Cold Copy, being other relatively recent examples.
