Lisa Kudrow's Dark Comedy On Netflix Now In Limbo, But There's Still Hope

Lisa Kudrow’s dark comedy series, No Good Deed, has been placed in a state of limbo by Netflix, though there is still hope the story will continue. The 2024 TV show starred Kudrow alongside Ray Romano, Linda Cardellini, and more, and centered around the secrets contained within a home on the market. No Good Deed was only a moderate success on Netflix, so its future is unclear.
According to a report from Deadline, No Good Deed has been put on hold, but it hasn’t been canceled entirely. The door is open for writer Liz Feldman to pitch an idea for the show’s second season. If the Dead to Me creator invents an acceptable story for the next step in the anthology, then No Good Deed can avoid the chopping block.
What No Good Deed’s Hold Means For The Anthology Series
No Good Deed Needs An Exceptionally Strong Second Season To Move Forward
No Good Deed was meant to be an anthology series from the beginning. Deadline reports that actors O-T Fagbenle and Teyonah Parris, who played supporting characters in No Good Deed season 1, were the only two cast members to sign multi-season deals, which implies that their characters, Dennis and Carla, were intended to carry over into season 2.
However, No Good Deed season 1 wasn’t the hit that Netflix had hoped for. While it briefly climbed to the number three spot on the top 10 TV shows for a time, it fell off after only four weeks, with approximately 6 million views. This isn’t terrible, but it’s not enough to guarantee the success of future seasons.
Feldman has the opportunity to present a fresh new idea that could revitalize the series.
It’s possible that the intended trajectory for No Good Deed season 2 had to be scrapped. However, rather than cancelling the show entirely, Feldman has the opportunity to present a fresh new idea that could revitalize the series. How long the Dead to Me creator has to make this happen, however, is still unclear.
Our Take On No Good Deed’s Unclear Future
Netflix Is Right To Move Carefully
No Good Deed was an entertaining ride with considerable potential. The comedy aspect didn’t stand out as much as it could, but the combination of mystery and heart made it fun all the same. As an anthology, the expectation was that each season of No Good Deed would be set at a new house full of dark secrets. Naturally, this means endless possibilities.
There’s an unfortunate trend that sees anthology series fall apart in their second season. However, those who make it through tend to do remarkably well. It may be smart that Netflix is taking a slow and steady approach here. If Feldman is back to the drawing board and manages to present an exceptional new story, I have hope that we could get several more seasons of No Good Deed. Of course, only time will tell.
