There Was A Lot More Of Me & Salman Bhai In Tubelight, Reveals Sohail

Sohail Khan the quieter sibling of the rumbustious superstar Salman , got a rare opportunity to play his won brother’s brother in Tubelight.

Lamentably there wasn’t enough screen time for the real-life brothers to share , and fans felt let down.

Sohail who likes to keep away from the limelight unless necessary reveals that there were many scenes featuring the brothers that were edited out. “There was  a lot more, for sure. What we shot together, Salman Bhai and I , or even what was narrated in the script…Later Kabir decided to cut it down. Which is fine because the film was not made to celebrate Salman Bhai’s brotherhood with me.So no complaints. I am very happy with the film and with the time Bhai and I shared in the film.”

There is an added reason for Sohail’s happiness. “We’ve worked together in the past. We even played brothers in Veer. But somehow we never got a chance to bond on screen earlier the way we did in Tubelight. In fact in  our last film together Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya we were not brothers and we were fighting throughout on screen.”

The Tubelight experience has left Sohail gratified and frightened, “Frightened , because it is about the brothers being separated. I’ve never been away from my brothers for long. We’re together most of the time . But I sometimes used  to wonder what it would feel like if Salman Bhai went away somewhere and I couldn’t see him. Tubelightgave me my first experience of losing a loved one.It scared the hell out of me.”

Having  led a sheltered life, Sohail says he has not known the loss of a loved one. “So far I’ve never experienced bereavement. I’ve been lucky so far. I have lost no one I love, not family not friends.I know everyone loses their loved ones  eventually. I’ve no idea what it feels like to go through  that.”

Tubelight gave Sohail a chance to experience what bereavement is like. “It was shattering. Once Salman Bhai and I were in our character’s clothes speaking their lines, we felt the same tragic energy as the two brothers on screen. It was eerie.”

Sohail is glad he got to do Tubelight, as the roles that he likes don’t come his way too often. “The last roled I had done were seven  years ago in Veer and Raakh. I don’t like most of what  is being offered. Luckily , I don’t have to face the camera to keep the food on the table for my family. I have my own production house, and the events that I arrange. So acting is not a  burning priority.”

The affable actor knows a role like Tubelight won’t come his way easily again. “I am okay with that. I am not waiting. I am  just happy I  got to work with Salman Bhai and director Kabir Khan.”
