After the unexpectedly gigantic success of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety(SKTKS) Luv Ranjan has become one of the most sought-after directors in Bollywood. Producers are approaching Ranjan with obscene remuneration.
But the director is not in the mood to cash in on the incredible success of SKTKS.
Says Ranjan, “I won’t direct a film for the next one-and-a-half years. Before I move on to my next project as a director, I need to establish myself as a reliable producer, so that I can produce films for the talented people who have worked with me .Right now I am producing a film for my editor Akiv Ali featuring Ajay Devgan. While giving Akiv full freedom to direct the film the way he wants I am also a hands-on producer, I am there for him every step of the way.”
Ranjan says he has a very clear reason for turning producers. “There are certain stories that I want to tell . But I feel I may not be the best person to direct those stories. For example, I am not completely comfortable doing extensive outdoor shootings. I am far more comfortable in the controlled confines of a studio. So if I have story that requires the characters to go outdoors a lot I may choose to get one of my associates to direct.”
As for his next directorial venture Luv Ranjan admits he has several ideas and he is meeting stars. “Yes I did meet Ranbir Kapoor, and we discussed some ideas. But that’s about it. There’s no concrete plan yet to work with Ranbir or anyone else. Like I said, I won’t be directing for the next 19 months at least. I’ve no insecurities about losing the audiences’ interest and attention. Even before SKTKS there were periods when I was not directing a film but scripting preparing. I am not afraid of losing out on success.”
At the moment Luv Ranjan is consumed by the film he is producing for Akiv Ali. “I was in London for several weeks scouting locations with Akiv. Then I had a bit of a health issue. Now I am back on my feet.”
