What a Diwali release is to Bollywood, Makar Sankranti is to the Telugu film industry. Sadly the auspicious January 14 date went vacant in 2021 due to the pandemic. But it looks like the Telugu film industry is determined to make up for lost time.
As many as four biggies are lined for Makar Sankranti 2022. These are Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata,Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam, Venkatesh-Varun Tej’s F3 and Pawan Kalyan’s untitled Telugu remake of the Malayalam film Ayyappanum Koshiyum.
Interestingly all the four projects are very different from one another in content and intent. Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata is a social-awakening message-oriented film, a genre he says he will explore more deeply now to use his star power to make a difference to society. Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam is a pure love story, a first in the Superstar’s career. Pawan Kalyan’s film is an action thriller while Vankatesh’s F3 is an out-and-out comedy.
If Covid permits, there will be an ample bandwidth for all four films to flourish this coming Makar Sankranti.
