Marisa Abela Latest To Join United Artists’ New ‘Highlander’ Movie

Industry‘s Marisa Abela is the newest addition to the cast of the new Highlander film from Amazon MGM StudiosUnited Artists, Deadline can confirm.

Details as to her role are under wraps. She joins a cast that includes Henry Cavill, who plays immortal warrior Connor MacLeod, as well as Russell Crowe, who plays his mentor Ramirez.

The John Wick franchise’s Chad Stahelski is directing the theatrical feature from a script by Michael Finch (John Wick: Chapter 4). UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will produce alongside Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner. UA has secured full rights to the 1986 original, with potential to also develop a new series. Lionsgate developed the film.

The original Highlander starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery and portrayed the climax of an ancient battle between immortal warriors, unfolding through interwoven past and present-day storylines. Russell Mulcahy directed, with Peter S. Davis and William N. Panzer producing. After steadily gaining popularity upon its release, the film spawned multiple sequels, as well as a TV series and an enduring fanbase.

Best known for starring in HBO’s Industry, Abela recently won a BAFTA TV Award for her role in the banking drama. Previously, she’s also been seen in Steven Soderbergh’s acclaimed thriller Black Bag and playing Amy Winehouse in Back to Black for StudioCanal and Focus Features.
