Mathematicians Never Had It So Good In Our Movies
After The Man Who Knew Infinity the vivid bio-pic on S. Ramanujan, films about Indian mathematical geniuses are gaining a new momentum in our cinema.
The veteran actor Manoj Kumar will be producing a bio-pic on another mathematical genius Aryabhata , acknowledged as the father of Indian mathematics.
Among the more contemporary mathematicians Anand Kumar who is globally celebrated for
his ‘Super 30’ scheme helping needy and deserving mathematicians, is also all set to have his life showcased in a film to be directed by Vikas Bahl.
The film will focus on his Anand’s efforts to provide educational opportunities to needy but financially impoverished maths students.
Vikas Behl who delivered a dud in Shaandaar last year is expected to resurrect himself with this rags-to-riches saga of a Bihari mathematical genius who rose from utmost poverty to become one of the world’s most celebrated academicians with books and documentaries on his work.
Incidentally Anand Kumar’s experiences and work were used by Prakash Jha in Aarakshan. AmitabhBachchan’s character named Dr Anand was based on Anand Kumar and Anand Kumar had been roped in for inputs.
That was not a pleasant experience for Anand Kumar. Hopefully Vikas Behl would do justice to a life that is motivational and quite simply exceptional.
