In the recently released The Ghazi Attack , Tapsee entered a slice of Indian history. The film wass based on a submarine attack on Pakistan by Indian soldiers during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.
Audiences were shocked at Tapsee’s abbreviated screen-presence attiem when she plays the author-backed central role in Naam Shabana.
Tapsee defends her limited screen time. “There were no women allowed on a battle submarine.So obviously there was no role for a female character in the film. But then the film’s makers wanted to introduce a woman.I’ve been brought in to the submarine as a Bangladeshi refugee. It was a guest appearance.And I did it because I was fascinated by the subject . Nothing like The Ghazi Attack has been attempted before in Indian cinema. It’s good to be part of a path-breaking cinema.And I am glad the film has been well received.”
Incidentally Tapsee has spoken her own dialogues in the Telugu version of The Ghazi Attack.“So if we consider the separate Hindi and Telugu version of The Ghazi Attack I actually have four releases in 45 days. Something of a world-record!’
Tapsee looks back with gratitude at her career so far. “From the time I did my first film Chashme Buddoor in Hindi. I never had anyone to guide me . When I am asked who my godfather is I say the audience is my godfather.”
