Momma Dearest, Bollywood Stars Want To Make Mother’s Say Special For Their Moms

Shabana Azmi: “At 89 Mashallah, Shaukat Kaifi is my mother, my child and my friend.Warm compassionate generous to a fault. But brutally frank. Her memory is failing. But she remembers lines from a play that she did at age 10! She continues to be a fabulous hostess. Her love for sarees has only increased with time. When (nobellaureate)Amartya Sen wrote a glowing review of her memoirs Kaifi & I  she bought 16 sarees for herself at one go. When I gasped that I had never done that in my life pat came her answer, ‘Well, Amartya Sen has never praised you during your life so far.’ My mom is a riot! On Mother’s Day I thank her with all my heart.  By the way, I honestly think she would rather have me gift her a saree than speak so sentimentally about her!!”

Tapsee Pannu: “I just want to gift my mom my love and lots of happiness because in no way can  I return or  pay back what she has given to me. For all the sleepless nights I’ve given her I promise to give her a life that would enable her to sleep peacefully every night. My words cannot be enough to thank her. But I promise to try to never say anything that would hurt her.”

Dia Mirza : “My mother is my hero. I look up to her and admire her for her fortitude. Every year on Mother’s Day I write her a letter. It’s been tradition between us. And I know nothing makes her happier than to read my words on Mother’s Day.”

Tiger Shroff: “I’d like to make every single day special for my mom.I really don’t need Mother’s Day to let her know she’s the most important person in my life. But sinceMother’s Day is officially on Sunday my Dad and I will take Mom out for dinner.”

Tanuj Virmani: “They say when a mother gives  birth to a child, the child also gives birth to a mother. I am blessed with the most wonderful mom(actress Rati Agnihotri). She is my pillar of strength. She has given me all the right values. But more than all this she is my best friend.I’d like to gift her a lifetime of happiness, good health and some good movie offers to show the world once again how wonderful she is in front of the camera.”

Shweta Prasad: “I don’t believe in these special days for special people. Mother’s Day works for Western countries where children live away from their parents. I don’t gift Maa anything. I just tell her I love her every day. So in a way every day is Mother’s Day for me. However since Mother’s Day conveniently falls on Sunday I will take my mom out to lunch. In the evening I may visit an old age home with a cake for abandoned mothers.”

Raveena Tandon: “Every time I gift my mum something she says the most precious gift I give to her is the company of her grandchildren. So I’ve planned a full-day activity with the whole family. Lunch and swim for the kids. Then they will hang around with their Naani at her beach house and maybe take her for a movie. So this Mother’s Daygive your mom  what she wants the most. Your company.”

Arjun Rampal: “I want to travel with my mother around the world to all the destinations she would love. I want to tell her that if I were to be born again, then I want to be born only as her child. She is the most beautiful and best mom in the world.”

Pooja Bhatt:”I think it’s time to discard the Mother’s Day clichés and promise to mother her in the twilight of her life. All parents and children have to reverse roles eventually. That is the natural order of life!”

Rishi Kapoor: “Of course I’d love to talk about my mother. But why on Mother’s Day only? Every day should belong to the people you love the most. I refuse to slot my loved ones according to a day of the week….Mother’s Day, Father’s Day…can you believe it, they even celebrated a Grocery Day!! And if that isn’t enough they also had an Asthma Day!! I refuse to discuss my mother as just a special person for a day. Having said that I don’t mind talking about her any day of  the year. But where do I begin? What do I say?  What can one say about one’s own mother? Whatever we as family are today is because of her.I am still her bachcha. Can you believe it? I am going to be 63 and she still fires the hell out of me. She advises me on where to go, and how to conduct my life. I keep telling her that I am old enough to make my own decisions. My daughter is married. My son is now living away from home. I am a grandfather. Let me make my own decisions, for God’s sake, I’m a grown-up man.But she doesn’t listen! But seriously ,I want to make my mother happy . My childhood memories with her are of school holidays in Jabbalpur. My Nanaji lived there. So we’d visit twice a  year, summer and winter. There my motherwould be the happiest with my uncles and  aunts.Apart from being the wife of a celebrity she was also a celebrity- sister. My maternal uncles were the actors Premnath and Rajendranath. My mother had tremendous endurance power. She is an amazing shock absorber. She stood steady through all my fathers stormy work pressures and all other stress. There were times when they had problems. But she overcame  all the trauma . With 5 children to look after she still managed to keep her family life beautifully together. It is said, bardasht ki hadd hoti hai. Not with her. She made sure my childhood was very lovely. She made sure all of us, three brothers and two sisters had a normal happy childhood.”
