Morgan Wallen Capitalizes on SNL Controversy

Country singer Morgan Wallen still isn’t talking about why he walked off stage at the end of “Saturday Night Live” on March 29, but he may be sending a message.

The so-called bad boy of country music was “Saturday Night Live’s” musical guest alongside host, “Anora” star Mikey Madison. But during the show’s traditional wrap up, when cast members all take the stage with the guest host, Wallen whispered something in Madison’s ear, then walked off the front of the stage, directly in front of the camera while the show was still on the air.

A short time after the abrupt exit, the country singer posted a photo on his Instagram account of a private jet with “Get me to God’s country” written in white text over it.

Now he’s putting that same message on merchandise for sale on his website. Wallen’s shop.morganwallen.com now features two baseball caps and a t-shirt that all bear the message “Get Me to God’s Country.” Each of the three items sells for $45.

Morgan Wallen Has Plenty to Say on New Podcast

Morgan Wallen had plenty to say on the April 2 episode of the “This Past Weekend with Theo Von” podcast. But perhaps ironically, none of what the pair talked about addressed the past weekend on ‘SNL.’

Nevertheless, Wallen didn’t shy away from talking about past controversies, including his arrest a year ago for throwing a chair off the roof of a six-story honkytonk on Nashville’s Lower Broadway.

Wallen was originally charged with felonies after the chair landed near two Nashville police officers. But in a plea deal in December, the superstar singer plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. A Tennessee judge sentenced Wallen to seven days at a DUI education center, two years of probation, and required him to pay a $350 fine and court fees.

Now Wallen says that incident has changed the way he lives his life.

On the podcast episode, Wallen said, “It’s still weird and there’s parts of that that I don’t like… it’s not ideal to go everywhere, and even if you don’t get bothered, you were on edge the whole time because you thought you might. There’s just things that you don’t do.”

One of those things is visiting bars. “I ain’t been in a bar since the last time I was in a bar that everybody knows about,” Wallen told Von.

Wallen says visiting bars is just one of the many things he’s given up while dealing with his fame. “You just don’t do them anymore,” he told Von. “But that’s okay, that’s why I’ve taken up hunting so much, I think. Because I can go be with my buddies, I’m the middle of nowhere. I can be at ease. I can not stress out. You just find ways to supplement it I think, you know.”

Wallen Opens Up About Fatherhood

Morgan Wallen was also forthcoming about fatherhood in the podcast.

The singer says his 4-year-old son Indigo is finally old enough to start appreciating his music.

“This album that I’ve been working on, this is the first time where it seems like he’s really starting to put two and two together, you know?” he said. “I would come home after I’d been writing and I’d show him songs this time. This is the first time that he’s ever cared.”

Indigo even has a favorite track on Wallen’s upcoming album, “I’m the Problem,” which drops May 16th.

The singer says it’s the song titled “Eyes Are Closed.” Wallen played the track at home for Indigo, saying he “moseyed on over there and started being like, ‘Ooh, what’s this?’ And then after it was done, he said, ‘I like that song, daddy.”

“It was the first time he had ever done that, so it was a special moment for me, something I’ll never forget. And he said, play that again,” Wallen told Von.

The country singer says he’s loving his role as a dad. “It just gets better and better the older he gets,” Wallen said on the podcast. “It’s always been cool … just the personality that keeps coming out and the relationship that you build.”
