A month away from his 57th birthday Telugu superstar Nagarjuna has crooned a song for the first time. EntitledKotha kotha bhasha the number is  composed by A R Rahman’s son.

Enthuses Nag, “Would you believe, Rahman’s son Ameen who has composed this catchy peppy number, is only 10?! When I heard the number I was immediately hooked. It’s so fresh catchy and young, I just couldn’t stop humming it. When the number was being recorded I was at the studio. The composer Roshan Salur heard me humming it. He said I sing well. And why don’t we record the number in my voice. I decided, why not.”

This is Nag’s first attempt at singing professionally. “We are all bathroom singers, right? What I enjoyed the most about my singing debut was its suddenness. We did not plan my song .No one, not even me,had an inkling of this. I just went to the studio and recorded. And I had fun. The bonus is, my fans enjoyed my singing. They were delighted by my unexpected gesture.”

For now this is all the singing that Nag will do. “Please! I am getting repeated requests to sing more.I did this song because I loved its young spirit. Plus, it is composed by a child prodigy. Most of all the song is part of a film Nirmala Convent which I am producing. I’ve tremendous faith in this film.Nirmala Convent, as you might know, is a much revered institution in Andhra Pradesh.”

Nag says he is happy to be  a singer at 57. “I want to keep trying something new all the time. It is the only way to grow.”
