New Details Emerge in Sophia Hutchins’ Fatal Crash
New information has emerged about the tragic death of Sophia Hutchins. Days after the fatal crash, authorities disclosed what they believe led to the devastating incident.
Sergeant Eduardo Saucedo of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told the Daily Mail that Hutchins, 29 was driving at a high speed on an ATV when she rear-ended another vehicle in Malibu’s mountainous terrain before plunging 350 feet off a cliff.
Saucedo added that Hutchins, a close friend of Caitlyn Jenner, may have been speeding on Decker Canyon Road in a 2013 Polaris ATV when she collided with a gray 2016 Mazda 6.
“It looks like she may have been speeding and rear-ended the other car, the other party, and then that caused her to veer to the right and go off the cliff,” Saucedo noted. “It doesn’t seem like she was following them. I think she just came up on them and then hit the car.”

GettyIt was also reported that Hutchins tried to maneuver around the Mazda but was simply traveling too fast. The female driver, a local realtor, and her female client were not injured.
Jenner was reportedly at the scene of the accident as deputies responded. Authorities say it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol were involved, pending the results of the coroner’s toxicology report.
Following the accident, a search and rescue team rappelled down the side of the cliff to recover Hutchins’ body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the ATV remained at the crash site, as the tow company reportedly “didn’t have a line that was long enough to attach it and pull it up.”
Caitlyn Jenner Mourns Tragic Loss
GettyIn the wake of Hutchins’ passing, Jenner was spotted with Hutchins’ mother in Malibu. The Daily Mail shared photos of the two stepping out together just two days after the fatal crash.
Jenner and Hutchins met in 2015 after the former announced her transition. The two instantly clicked and have been friends ever since. Hutchins even appeared on several episodes of Jenner’s reality series, “I am Cait.”
At one point, Hutchins and Jenner were living under one roof. However, Hutchins told The New York Times in 2019 that they “were never romantically involved.”
Caitlyn is a parent to me. I have said that a million times. It is a parental, familial relationship.
Hutchins tragically passed away in the morning of July 2, per TMZ.
