No Baahubali for Bollywood… for now!
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma says why our film industry and Bollywood stars cannot attempt to make a film of that scale and grandeur
There has been much discussion about making a film like Baahubali in Bollywood, in terms of budget and grandeur. Baahubali 2 has become India’s biggest film at the box office as it earned Rs.100 crore on the opening day, collecting Rs. 800 (approx) crore worldwide within just six days of its release and became the first ever Indian film to gross over Rs.1,000 crore in all languages, in just ten days. Can Bollywood ever make a film of this standard?
Ramu sounds awed also by Prabha
‘s level of conviction. “The kind of conviction with which Prabhas has done both the Baahubalis is amazing. And I am talking apart from investing two-three years in a film and forgetting the world kind-of-conviction. It takes an enormous conviction to walk in high-speed level and do the kind of action and drama, which only some South Indian stars can do like Prabhas. I find that quality lacking in our Bollywood stars. They have this extra-ordinary conviction in commercial masala drama and which coupled with that kind of scale of imagery which no one has seen, is what worked with Baahubali. I have seen both of them and loved both.”
The filmmaker admits candidly that he can never make a Baahubali. “I have neither the patience, the passion and nor the extra-ordinary commitment of what Rajamouli has. I don’t have even one per cent of what he has.”
