The next eagerly awaited Sridevi starrer Mom has a new date.Earlier it was to be released on14 July. But now it has been preponed by a week.
Boney Kapoor who is not just the producer of the film but also the film’s diva-heroine’s husband explains, “There were several film coming on July 14 along with ours. On top of them all, Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos was also announced for release on July 14. Then when we got to know that Sabir Khan’s Tiger Shroff-Nawazuddin starrer Munna Michaelwas being shifted from July 7 to July 21,we decided to prepone our film by a week to release on July 7.”
It’s not that Boney fears competition. “But I’ve been in this business long enough to know that it serves no purpose to crowd a Friday with several films. It’s not a question of, whose film is bigger or smaller? It’s just self-defeating to have so many releases simultaneously. We are happy to take our film to another Friday. Now we have a Hollywood franchiseSpiderman to deal with.”
Interestingly Munna Michael which now goes to July 21 would have to battle at theboxoffice with two other films Ashwini Iyer(Nil Battey Sannata) Tiwari’s Bareilly Ki Barfiand Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar.Jagga Jasoos which now replaces Mom on July 14would have to deal with Apoorva Lakhia’s gangster bio-pic Haseena and Raja Krishna Menon’s Saif starrer Chef.
Sridevi’s Mom would have to deal with the multi-lingual version of the latest edition ofSpiderman on July 7.
