From distorted bodies or faces to continuity errors or disappearing objects, animation mistakes are common in most anime and can be both amusing and unforgivable to some fans. Unfortunately, in addition to its questionable animation quality, One-Punch Man Season 3 overlooked a glaring error in its latest episode, revealing its production was in a worse state than fans had imagined.
Producing anime is quite a difficult task, as it requires not only a talented team but also many corporate decisions. As a result, animation studios often outsource challenging scenes, especially when time is limited due to tight production schedules. However, a recent animation mistake in One-Punch Man Season 3 revealed the chaos that reigns in the anime’s production.
Garou vs. Royal Ripper and Bug God in One-Punch Man Season 3 Has a Curious Mistake
Although the fast pace of the scene may have caused many fans to overlook it, during Garou’s fight against the Monster Association executives, Bug God and Royal Ripper, the latter appears to have breasts and is drawn with clear female proportions during an animated sequence. However, Royal Ripper has been confirmed as a male character.
This sequence, which has generated negative reactions from fans on social media, doesn’t mean the anime decided to change Royal Ripper’s gender, but rather it is a clear continuity error, since this physical trait is only visible for a few seconds in episode 3 of One Punch Man Season 3.
Since the credits show that several subcontracted studios abroad participated in One Punch Man Season 3, episode #3, it’s possible that the lack of familiarity with the work led the animator in charge of the scene to confuse Royal Ripper’s gender, since he has long hair and wears a tattered dress (which many fans consider similar to a butcher’s apron).
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is a Clear Example of the Problems in the Anime Industry
Although Royal Ripper’s involuntary gender swap has become a meme among fans, the fact the anime’s staff failed to spot such a noticeable issue confirms a lack of communication and poor quality control and post-production in One-Punch Man Season 3. One-Punch Man Season 3‘s director subtly hinted at the pressure the studio was under to meet the anime’s production deadlines.
Therefore, it’s probable that, even if they noticed Royal Ripper’s animation mistake, the staff chose to leave it as is because they didn’t have enough time to correct it. Often, anime’s production committees impose precarious working conditions on animators, not giving them enough resources and time to deliver the best quality, which seems to be the case with One-Punch Man.
Yet, despite its inconsistent quality, not everything is lost for One-Punch Man Season 3, which is just getting started. It’s possible that, as with Blue Lock Season 2, the production team’s main focus was on the later episodes. This is because the animation is much more demanding due to the increased action in the Monster Association arc.
