It is a one-of-its-kind discursive but devilishly tongue-in-cheek unveiling of issues that are largely kept away from kids.So we have little Pappu(played with pricess wisdom by little Kabir Sajid) , precocious,inquisitive and exploratory to the point of reducing his father into a nervous wreck.

I mean, what do you do with a son who asks you after a bout of cricket suddenly asks, ‘Papa, yeh masturbation kyahota hai?

Papa played by the very watchable Anand Tiwari fumbles and falters over words as he explains through a cricket analogy that when the bowler is out of town the batsman needs to play on his own….It’s delightful to see Tiwariand young Kabir Sajid play out this mastubatory conversation with such convincing awkwardness.

To add to the prevalent feeling of unease there is Sachin Pilgaonkar as Tiwari’s father , frowing at his son’s freewheeling attempts at inculcating sexual knowledge in his little son.

Frankly it seems a little premature to explain to a 7-year old about masturbation and other sexual activities that the series will discuss in coming episodes. But then , better safe than sorry. Considering what the world has become isn’t it better to be forewarned than caught unawares by predators and stalkers who are waiting to take advantage of innocent children?

The director Ashish Patil rationalizes the issue, “ Our research tells us that if a child is old enough to ask he’s old enough to know. Countries overseas start on this subject as part of formal curriculum as early as age 5. There’s a direct and clear correlation between parents having this talk and safer sexual behaviour among children.”

Says the series’ director Ashish Patil, “At Y-Films we like to push the envelope with the stories we tell. Pappu & Papa is something that’s going to tear up that envelope and eat the shreds. It’s incredible how still in the 2^nd most populous country in the world  sex is such a taboo topic. Most parents clam up when having to talk to kids about the ‘birds & the bees’. Research clearly shows that sex talk with parents is directly linked to safer sexual behavior. We’re here to help get this important chat started – in 15 languages – after all, Love & Sex know no language!”
