The days of playback singing seem numbered. It looks like the era of the singing star is back. There was a time when actresses like Noorjehan and Suraiya sang their own songs on screen.
Then came the mighty all-pervasive era of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Every actress wanted to sound like them. Now it seems the present generation of actresses have taken a page out of Priyanka Chopra’s book. After Shraddha Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, it is Priyanka’s cousin Parineeti’s turn.
She will be making her singing debut with none other than singer-actor Ayushmann Khurrana in Meri Pyaari Bindu, the film that they are starring in together.
Says Parineeti excitedly, “We’re both keen students of singing. So a duet is only natural. In fact we’re both constantly singing and humming loudly on the sets to remind the director Akshay Roy that we’re waiting to sing our duet.”
Parineeti sees the neo-trend of actors singing for themselves to be very healthy. “It’s good so many of us are singing for ourselves. I may not have the perfect voice. But I know my capabilities. And I know my voice and how to project emotions with it.When I sing for myself I sing how I feel.”
