Disney+ today announced that “Light Shop Keeper” star Park Bo-young and “No Way Out: The Roulette” star Kim Sung-cheol will be seen again in the streaming platform in a fast-paced, Disney+-exclusive crime thriller titled “Gold Land.”
Written by acclaimed “Oldboy” screenwriter Hwang Jo-yoon, “Gold Land” follows Hee-ju, a girl from a sleepy backwater town who accidentally comes into possession of gold bars belonging to a smuggling organization. Suddenly finding herself in a van full of gold — and on the run from some of Korea’s most dangerous men — Hee-ju hurtles toward the one place she swore she’d never return.
“Gold Land” stars Park Bo-young as Kim Hee-ju, a determined woman desperate to escape her past, and Kim Sung-cheol (“No Way Out,” “Troll Factory”) as Jang Wook (a.k.a. Woogy), a member of the criminal organization chasing Hee-ju — and someone who lived in the same neighborhood as her when they were young. The series is written by Hwang Jo-yoon (“Rampant,” “Memoir of a Murderer”) and directed by visionary filmmaker Kim Sung-hoon (“Chief Detective 1958,” “Confidential Assignment”).
“Gold Land” is the latest addition to the eagerly anticipated slate of upcoming Korean content on Disney+. Fans of unmissable Korean storytelling can also look forward to the recently announced “Delusion” (working title), about a vampire in mourning; “Low Life,” about backstabbing degenerates desperate to recover a life-changing treasure; and “Tempest,” about a diplomat and a special agent racing to uncover the truth behind an attack that threatens the stability of the Korean peninsula.
Set to release exclusively on Disney+, stay tuned for more updates on “Gold Land” coming soon.
