The production team of JTBC’s Friday series opener The Nice Guy unveiled Park Hoon‘s still cuts.

The Nice Guy tells the story of Park Seok Cheol (Lee Dong Wook), the eldest grandson of a third-generation gangster family who strives to protect his loved ones.

Park Hoon takes on the role of Kang Tae Hoon, the boss of Samjun Construction — a rival to Myeongsan Industries, which Park Seok Cheol is affiliated with. He also shares a past with Park, having once belonged to the same organization.

Park Hoon commented, “Just from the title and synopsis alone, it was a project that felt so grounded. On top of that, I also really wanted to work with director Song Hae Sung, who directed the film Failan, a movie which I really like, and Lee Dong Wook again after our previous project together.”

He added, “The script covered a wide range of genres, from stories about people’s lives to family. It made me curious — ‘What would this look like with these actors performing?’”

He also described his character Kang Tae Hoon, saying, “He’s both a friend and an enemy to Park Seok Cheol. They walk the same path but are different people. And he may look like a bad guy, but he’s also a good man.” “I believe the story between Park Seok Cheol and Kang Tae Hoon is also one of the key elements to watch. Please look forward to seeing what events lead the two to stand at a crossroads and how they come to face each other again.”

He also said, “I approached the role by maintaining a sense of balance, so that Kang Tae Hoon wouldn’t come across as just a villain between Park Seok Cheol and Kang Mi Yeong. But the more I tried to strike that balance, the more unstable the dynamic between the three of them seemed.”

The Nice Guy is coming July 18. The K-drama will be streaming on Disney+ and Hulu (select regions).
