Park Sung Woong‘s second upcoming K-drama will reportedly be Great King Munmu.
On September 23, media outlets reported that Park Sung Woong will be the main lead of the upcoming KBS historical K-drama Great King Munmu, which is scheduled to premiere next year.
Park Sung Woong’s agency responded to the casting reports and stated, “Park Sung Woong has received the offer to star in Great King Munmu and is currently reviewing it.”
This will possibly be the comeback of Park Sung Woong to the historical genre after 15 years, as well as to the broadcast channel KBS. This will also be the first historical K-drama genre of KBS since the Korea-Khitan War.
In 2025, Park Sung Woong didn’t have any K-drama projects. He only made a cameo appearance in Nine Puzzles.
Next year, the actor will reportedly return to the small screen and will lead the upcoming K-drama I Believe You. He will work alongside Jeong Jae Hyun, Lee Chae Min, Jeong E Suh, Kim Sun Young, and Yoon Kyung Ho.

The historical K-drama Great King Munmu will showcase the unification of the Three Kingdoms, highlighting the victory of the Kingdom of Silla over Goguryeo, Baekje, and the Tang Dynasty.
Park Sung Woong has been offered the role of General Kim Yu Shin, a character he last played in the 2011 MBC K-drama Gye Baek. This marks his return to the role after 15 years.
Great King Munmu will be the joint work of directors Jang Min Seok (The Worst of Evil and Local Hero) and Kim Young Jo (Hwarang and Oh My Geum Bi).
According to reports, Great King Munmu will be part of KBS’s Saturday and Sunday K-drama timeslot. It will reportedly air in 2026.
