Peacemaker: James Gunn Reveals Why Season 2 Isn’t a Binge Release

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn opened up about Peacemaker Season 2’s release schedule, ahead of the show’s long-awaited HBO Max return on August 12, 2025. So far, early reviews for the latest installment have been very positive, as it currently holds a near-perfect Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 40 reviews.

What did James Gunn say about Peacemaker Season 2’s release schedule?

On Threads, Gunn responded to a DC fan’s request of dropping the eight episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 all at once, instead of its planned weekly episode release. The series creator disagreed with the fan’s binge release request, revealing that the “anticipation and conversation” generated from the show’s weekly episode release “is part of the fun.” In addition, Gunn also liked other fan comments who shared the same sentiment as him regarding the show’s release schedule.

Peacemaker is created, written, and directed by Gunn, who also serves as its showrunner. Season 2 will feature the return of John Cena as Chris Smith/Peacemaker, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos, Nhut Le as Judomaster, and Robert Patrick as August “Auggie” Smith/White Dragon. Joining them are new cast members Frank Grillo, David Denman, Sol Rodriguez, Michael Rooker, and Tim Meadows. Unlike Season 1, all the events that will happen in Season 2 will be “fully 100% canon” in the DC Universe.

“In Season 2, Peacemaker discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands,” reads the show’s newest logline.
