The new Pokémon Legends: Z-A teasers have reminded me that there’s one possibility with new Mega Evolutions that we hadn’t considered before. The next core entry in the series will be set in Lumiose City, in the region of Kalos. Because of it, Mega Evolutions will return in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, with new forms already confirmed and some that have been leaked.
Nintendo has already showcased the new Mega Dragonite form that will debut in the game, and there have been leaks about several other Mega Evolutions. These, however, have yet to be confirmed. Even so, the company has been sharing a few teasers that may hint at new forms we haven’t seen before, and I believe we may see an unexpected Mega Evolution feature.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Could Present More X & Y Mega Evolution Forms
The Teasers Are Likely For Mega Dragalge
A new Pokémon Legends: Z-A teaser has been posted, highlighting that a potential Poison-type creature may be revealed. The image shows a metal fence partially melted by what looks like a purple corrosive liquid. While it seems almost certain that this is a teaser for the leaked Mega Dragalge, it did remind me of a possibility that may return with the game.
The new teasers made me think that new X and Y Mega Evolutions could be introduced in the upcoming game. Currently, and since Pokémon X and Y, only Charizard and Mewtwo have X and Y Mega Evolution forms, with each of the forms granting the creatures different typings. This sub-system could return with the comeback of Mega Evolutions in Legends: Z-A.
Legends: Z-A Could Revisit Older Pokémon That Already Have Mega Evolutions
There Could Be A New Mega Gengar Variant
I’m convinced the posts are teasing the leaked Mega Dragalge in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but I can’t help but imagine that it could be an X or Y Mega Evolution form for a Poison-type creature that already has a Mega Evolution. Because of the images’ somber settings, I instantly thought of Gengar, which already has a Mega Evolution.
However, I do enjoy the possibility of seeing a new Mega Gengar variant, which could be represented by an X or Y form (or perhaps a Mega Evolution Z form, to match the game’s title). Nintendo has stopped adding these alternative forms, but Legends: Z-A is the perfect setting for their return.
I’m sure we won’t see this mechanic in any of the promotional materials leading up to the game’s return. Nevertheless, I do foster hope for new X and Y forms being included in the main game beyond the confirmed Mega Charizard X and Y, applied to new creatures that don’t have Mega Evolutions, as well as those that already have Mega Evolutions before the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
