In a recent viral community post, a netizen highlighted the issue of online bullying in Korea by sharing the story of actress Kim Hee Sun‘s daughter, who received merciless hate online as a child.
The post referred to the actress’s past appearance on SBS‘s Healing Camp, where she revealed the incessant hateful comments her daughter received for her appearance. “I was deeply hurt by the malicious comments people left about my daughter’s appearance,” the actress stated, adding that she even considered leaving the country to protect her child.
Kim even admitted that she felt guilty toward her daughter because all the negative attention on her was due to Kim’s popularity. “To me, she is the most beautiful daughter in the world,” the actress asserted through tears.
This episode of Healing Camp was aired in 2012 when Kim Hee Sun’s daughter was only three years old. Her daughter is now 16 years old and is known to have passed a series of gifted child tests starting from the age of 6. She currently studies in Singapore.
While Kim Hee Sun’s daughter seems to have powered through the hate comments to grow up as a confident and talented teenager, the incident is an unpleasant reminder of how mindless hate can take a bigger toll than what appears on the surface.
