Global star and National Award winning actress Priyanka Chopra will kick off the 42nd annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 6, as the Guest Of Honour at the TIFF Soiree, an annual fund raiser to support the campaign Share Her Journey (runs from July 10-September 17 and aims to raise $3 million (CAD) over five years). Proceeds from TIFF Soireé will go towards increasing opportunities for women in movies. At the TIFF Soiree she will talk about her Hollywood and Bollywood career on stage in a chat with TIFF’s Artistic Director Cameron Bailey. This will be followed by a cocktail party on TIFF Bell Lightbox’s rooftop terrace which has an outdoor amphi theatre and offers a breathtaking view of Toronto.
PC will be honored for inspiring women, playing strong female characters on screen and creating equal opportunities for women and realize their own potential. She was recently nominated in the Villain category at the Teen Choice 2017 awards for her debut Hollywood film Baywatch. The actress is also known to be a strong advocate of women’s rights and is a Goodwill Ambassador for promoting children’s education around the world. She’s also founded the The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education. Priyanka is also India’s highest-paid and most popular celebrities and in 2016, received the Padma Shri. Time magazine has named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
TIFF will take place from September 7-17.
