Rainbow Vomit in Borderlands 4: How to Get the Best Gun in the Game

Borderlands 4 provides a plethora of weapons for players to try out, and among them, one of the best weapons has to be the Rainbow Vomit. And like any weapon in the game, it doesn’t come easy. You’ll need to defeat a very specific boss, in this case, Leader Willem.

But reaching him and taking him on as a boss fight requires a fair bit of progress through the main campaign and side missions. Let’s dive into the details.

Unlocking Rainbow Vomit: Step-by-Step Requirements

To even convert Leader Willem into a permanent world box and have a chance at Rainbow Vomit dropping, you’ll need to progress through several side missions first. These missions act as unlock gates tied to the Carcadia storyline. Here’s the order to follow:

  1. Players first need to complete the Main mission 9: Unpaid Tab to restore the electricity and water to Carcadia.
  2. This will unlock the Electi side-storyline (which has two parts), kicking off the chain of events and mission for Willem. Completing the 2nd part gives access to the Carcadia Burn region.
  3. Then start The Council Divided (Side Mission), which pushes the narrative towards faction tensions in Carcadia
  4. After that, complete the A Traitor Within (Side Mission), which is a very pivotal quest that narrows your path closer to Willem’s stronghold.
  5. Finally, The Mole’s Gambit (Side Mission), which will give you access to the Excrucible area in Grindstone of the Worthy. This is where Leader Willem awaits.

Once these missions are complete, Willem becomes available to fight. Defeating him has a chance to reward you with the Rainbow Vomit. It might take some time, but you can get the legendary version of the weapon as well.

Why Rainbow Vomit Is the Best Gun in Borderlands 4

The Rainbow Vomit is one of the strongest and most versatile weapons in Borderlands 4. Why? It’s all thanks to its unique trait that allows the weapon to do multiple elemental damage at the same time. Yes, you read that correctly.

Unlike most guns that specialize in a single damage type, the Rainbow Vomit can do multiple elemental variations, such as Corrosive, Cryo, and Shock, or Incendiary, Radiation, and Shock. What makes it special is that it can do fire, corrosive, shock, and incendiary damage simultaneously in some cases.

This means it is incredibly effective against most enemies, no matter what they resist. On top of that, with it being Jakobs technology, it gets that bullet ricochet mechanic, where the bullets will ricochet to the nearest target, spreading status effects across the horde of enemies.

Combine that with its already wide projectile spread and splash damage, and the weapon is meant for destruction. It also thrives in builds which are focused on Status Effect Chance and Status Effect Damage, allowing players to melt through both mobs and bosses with ease.

All these qualities make Rainbow Vomit, arguably, the best weapon in the game. What do you think? Will you be farming Leader Willem for this weapon, or do you already have your go-to endgame gun? Share your build below.
