Ranbir Is Much More Popular Than I  Am, Says Amitabh Bachchan

Ranbir Kapoor seems  have found  a fan in The Big B Amitabh Bachchan .In a recent live interview Mr B confessed how he would like to work with Ranbir so as to be able to learn a few things about acting.

Now in an  interview with Rajeev Masand Mr Bachchan said, “Everyone can’t be popular forever. Koi na koi toh aayega jo aur popular hoga. It’s very egoistic to take  a break. Everyday you learn something….The whole equation change…. The crowd is not attracted to you.You enter a restaurant and no one looks at you…This is bound to happen and you’ve to accept it.”

Then about entering the venue with Ranbir, Mr Bachchan said, “There were some audience there was applause for me , but when he walked in…’Yaaaaaaay!’…No one looked at me.They were looking at him…I came in with him so I could hear some noise.”

With commendable and brutal honesty the Big B talks about the process of  losing stardom to someone younger. He remembered the difference in audience response in the US when he had gone for the release of Chote Miyan Bade Miyan as compared with the response earlier when he had gone earlier in his heydays.

It is very rare for an actor to be so brutally honest about the loss of stardom. Or to lavish so much praise on a fellow-actor. Not only did Mr Bachchan call Ranbir a bigger star during the interview, he also lavished praise on Sushant Singh for a shot in Dhoni The Untold Story and on Diljit Dosanjh for Udta Punjab.

Diljit was a complete fish out of water in Rajeev Masand’s Roundtable 2016. Firstly the language was a  barrier. All the actors spoke in English. Diljit opted for Hindi. And then his command over the craft of cinema was at best, nebulous.

Masand started with a question for all his panelists on a statement made by Tom Hanks.

Yeh Tom Hanks kaun hai? Director ya actor?” Diljit wanted to know.

One hopes this Punjabi singer-actor remains as simple , unaffected and unspoilt all  his life. Here’s one actor who operates from his heart. Or so he’d like us to believe.
