Going by the trailer of Excel’s webseries Inside Edge based on a cricketing scam it would not be erroneous to conclude that that producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani have based the situations and characters on the IPL.
Speculative sources insist Vivek Oberoi plays Lalit Modi while RichaChadha plays Prety Zinta, though she denies it.
But says a source close to the series, “It is elementary, really. RichaChadha plays the owner of an IPL team . There was only one female team owner in the IPL. So yes,Richa plays Preity while Vivek Oberoiplays Lalit Modi.”
Apparently Preity who heard about the series asked her friendsproducr Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani to show her what they’ve done.
Preity goes back a long way with Farhan and Ritesh. She played the lead in their first film Dil Chahta Hai and they have remained friends ever since.
Preity denies having asked for the series to be shown to her. “No, I just heard about the show from the media. Ritesh Sidhwani told me last year that it was based on South Indian characters and inspired from them. Then I saw the director’s interview and he clearly said that it has nothing to do with me. It has nothing to do with me .The show is getting publicity on my name.”
Young actor Tanuj Virmani who’s said to be playing a character based on cricketer Virat Kohli also denies any sameness to real life. “My character is actually not based on anyone.A lot of people are asking me if it’s Virat or Yuvraj. Truth is, perhaps my physical appearance may suggest a likeness to some real-life cricketer. But that’s it. I don’t play a real cricketer.”
Sara Jane Dias who is also part of the cast adds, “I too play a fictional character named Meera Nagpal.”
However it is clear that the similarities to the real-life IPLcontroversies and its glamorous players will explode into a volatile scenario once the series releases on July 10.
