Riley Green Reveals First Thing he Bought After His First #1

Many people assume that music industry fame automatically means a large paycheck, but that isn’t typically the case. For most artists, it takes something like a #1 radio hit to make a life-changing income from music. Like many singers, country music star Riley Green celebrated his first #1 with a big purchase, but what he chose to buy may surprise you.
“I bought my mom a car,” Green explained in a recent Katie & Company podcast appearance. He made the purchase in honor of his debut single, “There Was This Girl,” reaching the top of the charts. Since then, he’s added several more #1 hits to his resume, including this year’s “Worst Way.”
Green Said He’d ‘Never Been as Excited’ When Buying His Mom’s Car
Although Green is a self-described lover of buying cars, he said this particular purchase was special. “What was cool about it was [that] I’ve never been as excited buying a car as I was buying her one,” the singer said. “Or like buying my dad a truck or something. I always I enjoy that.”
As Green went on to explain, part of why buying his parents these gifts feels rewarding is because of how they’ve lived their lives. “They’ve never lived above their means, you know?” he said. “My dad’s never had a nice truck.” He also shared that his parents were very appreciative of the gift.
The Singer Once Gave His Mom a Somewhat Unusual Birthday Present
Of course, a car isn’t the only gift Green has ever given his mom. In a 2023 appearance on the Got It From My Momma podcast, Karen Green herself revealed one of the more amusing birthday gifts she has received from her son. “He did buy me a goat for my birthday one time,” she told the host.
Although she admitted the gift was “thoughtful,” receiving it didn’t go quite as expected. When the singer arrived home with the present, it showed that it had a mind of its own. “The goat got away from him,” Karen said. “And he had to chase it…around several blocks,” she continued. “He was pretty worn out after running it down.”
