Not many know this . But Salman Khan hero-worships Dharmendra and looks for ways to pay him a compliments off and on screen. Therefore when an opportunity arose to pay Dharmendra a tribute Salman grabbed it with both hands.
The circus episode in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat is directly inspired by Raj Kapoor’s Mera Naam Joker. Confirming this, director Ali says, “Our circus sequences were inspired from Raj Saab’s Mera Naam Joker. Our circus troupe is international, just like the one in Mera Naam Joker.”
In fact Salman has modeled his character in the circus episode of Bharat on Dharmendra in Mera Naam Joker.
When I mention Salman’s homage to Dharmendra in Mera Naam Joker to the legendary senior actor he says fondly, “Salman is like my third son(after Sunny and Bobby). He has always shown the greatest love not just for me, but for my entire family. I am very fond of Salman.I am not surprised if he has modeled his character on me. He always says I’m his role model. So so nice of him.”
It must be mentioned here that when Dharamji’s younger son Bobby Deol’s career was going nowhere Salman took stock of Bobby’s career and gave him a meaty role in Race 3. Salman also made a guest appearance recently in Dharamji’s family film Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se.
