Season 3 of Marvel Rivals is finally here, and ‘The Abyss Awakens’ beckons the call of Knull – and, surprisingly enough, Wolverine as well. Our favorite tri-clawed mutant has turned out to be quite the menace this time around, digging through with his claws into Vanguards like a hot knife through butter.
This has led to players jokingly suggesting that tank mains should hold a strike against NetEase Games’ very biased approach to them.
Tank strike incoming
Jokes aside, playing against Wolverine has been more miserable than usual lately, and it might be worth re-balancing the character soon.
Wolverine Has Grown To Become A Menace In Marvel Rivals’ Season 3
Season 3 of Marvel Rivals brought back with the one character all tanks fear – Wolverine. He’s back with a vengeance, and ready to be the best at what he does – even if it means not being so nice.

NetEase Games decided to buff up the character quite significantly with the Season 3 update, bestowing upon him both burn damage and life steal. Wolverine already was a very powerful anti-tank character to begin with, though.

NetEase’s decision to buff him even further most definitely has raised several eyebrows, and this ploy seems rather intentional. Nertease likely wants to curb down on the tank meta, and is deploying anti-tank agents to level the playing field, so to speak.
It’s an interesting change, but not for the reasons you might think. Not a whole lot of players use Vanguards in Marvel Rivals, with many opting to prefer Duelists instead. As such, the need for this particular buff is quite questionable.
Instead of boosting tanks, NetEase is doing the opposite, which could frustrate many players and make them susceptible to quitting the game outright.
This could be done to heavily discourage solo Vanguard team comps, which have actually been proven to be quite a pain to go up against in the past. However, this really isn’t the proper way to deal with it.
There’s A Lot More NetEase Games Might Need To Address Here
Marvel Rivals might not be a perfect game, but it’s pretty damn close. The game has drawn in a massive following of players since its launch back in December 2024, and has seen quite a few changes and additions since then.
While many of these have been rather inconsequential, a few of them have been disruptive and, at worst, game-breaking. NetEase Games also absolutely refuses to implement some changes on its end, such as a role queue.
Other required changes would be a greater focus on gameplay enhancements over skins, and a general boost to team balancing. As it stands right now, Marvel Rivals is a pretty miserable game, at least in terms of its hero balance.
Things can be improved, though, assuming NetEase Games takes on the reins quickly.
