After Shah Rukh Khan craze in Germany, now a Bollywood song in a German film!

Bollywood is definitely going global. We know Germany loves Shah Rukh Khan. He has a huge fan following there and many German women are crazy about him.

Now Bollywood playback singer, Rahul Pandey, who has sung hit songs like Haseena Tu Kameena Main (Happy Ending) and Jab We Met (Hero) and recently lent his voice Tiger Shroff’s songs Feel The Rhythm and Show Me Your Moves in Munna Michael, has sung a Bollywood song in a German film and the German cast and crew even fly down to Mumbai to shoot for it. Earlier Hindi songs have been given sub-titles in German in Bollywood movies.

A tete-e-tete with Rahul tells us on that among other things…

Which German film have you sung a Hindi song for?
I was approached by the German director Martin Tischner (co-director of movie Checker Tobi) who is currently working on an untitled German film starring Tobi Krell (played the title role in Tischner’s movie). They had a requirement of a Bollywood style Hindi song for the film and they wanted me to sing it. They had heard one of my other Bollywood releases Jab we met song from the movie Hero (2015) and wanted something on similar lines. This song is called Sapnay and it talks about chasing your dreams. There are no Bollywood actors featuring in it. Tobi Krell is being featured in the song and the entire cast and crew flew down from Munich to shoot the song in Mumbai. The film is due for release sometime next year.

You have also collaborated with a Welsh band.
I am associated with Songbound – an outreach initiative that brings the transformative power of music to some of India’s poorest and most marginalised children. It is run by Joe Walters from London who is a good friend of mine. Early this year, the kids from the choir were to perform with an all men choir from Wales (UK) called Only Men Aloud (OMA) for a short film. I was approached by my friend Joe Walters and OMA to write a Bollywood song, sing with the kids and OMA and also feature in the film. The movie was aired on UK’s Welsh Channel S4C and this was the first time the channel aired a show with Hindi subtitles. This is how the song Apni Yeh Zameen happened. The best part was that OMA, who of course weren’t well versed with the language Hindi, sang the entire song in Hindi. The song is an amazing amalgamation of Hindi lyrics put together in a Bollywood style with parts of song being sung in traditional Welsh. The kids from Songbound did a fantastic job and I had a wonderful time being a part of it.

You have sung a whacky Tamil song recently named Double Okay.
Recently I debuted in the Tamil industry with my song Double Okay from the movie Adhagappattathu Magajanangalay for composed by ace composer D. Imman Sir. Double Okay is a fun whacky song. It explores a totally new style of singing from what I have otherwise sung so far. It is fast-paced, full of energy song which is sure to make anyone groove to its beat. When I recorded the song, D. Imman sir asked me to experiment a bit with my tone and try something unique. What then happened was quite whacky and fun and I had a blast singing it. The song has really interesting lyrics which makes it even more entertaining.

You sang for Ekta Kapoor’s web series titled Romil and Jugal?
Yes. Romil and Jugal is a recreation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with a twist. I got to sing a youthful and peppy song named Shehzaade, for my friend and a very good composer Anurag Saikia. The song was featured in the second episode of the series and was picturized on one of the two lead characters of the series.

Tell us about the songs Feel The Rhythm and Show Me Your Moves in Munna Michael.
Both songs are full of energy and sound really fresh and stylish. The entire album of Munna Michael offers amazing dance tracks with lovely tunes. A host of talented composers have come together along with amazing singers and the result is nothing short of spectacular. My songs are out and out dance tracks and have a very classy feel to them. They are hip and cool and Pranaay has wonderfully composed both. Tiger Shroff has danced to one of my songs and Feel The Rhythm happens to be one of his favourite tracks from the album. So hoping my audiences love the track as well!
