It looks  like  Abu Azmi’s comments following the shameful mass molestation on New Year eve in Bengaluru has caused far-reaching hurt.

Reacting sharply to Azmi’s regressive comments  the Bharatiya Janta Party’s  spokesperson Shaina NC says, “It is shameful  enough that our women out for revelry on New Year’s eve were subjected to such shameful behaviour.  But it’s even more shameful that a political leader should make such shockingly regressive statements. Ironically his own  daughter-in-law was an actress at one time .He(Abu Azmi) is not the  first prominent politician to make such outrageous remarks. We’ve had Mulayam Singh’s infamous boys-will-be-boys comment on rape. There are other politicians who  have made unacceptable remarks about the way women dress and conduct themselves.”

Shaina is sickened by the Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara’s comment on the mass molestation(“Such things do happen”).

Says Shaina, “Law and order is  a State subject and the Home Minister should take responsibility for what happened to the girls that night. What were 1500 police personnel doing when women were subjected to this treatment? Providing safety to every citizen is the basic duty of the State government. We can’t run away from our responsibility with sexist remarks. Comments on the kind of clothes women wear have no place in civilized society.”
