Some The Sims 4 players have sounded off that a notoriously hated item in the game is the most “annoying” object in the history of the popular social simulation franchise. The item in question is so disliked by a lot of the community that some players don’t even know how it shows up, just that they want to get rid of it as soon as possible. Some users note the object’s prevention of gameplay actions, and even setting macros to destroy the object.

In a post by Proof-Razzmatazz1716 on Reddit, players are detailing their frustrations with the lump of clay objects. A lot users agree with Proof-Razzmatazz1716’s caption on the post, which reads: “This has to be the most annoying object in [S]ims history.” A point of frustration for a lot of players is that their Sims will stop in the middle of actions to play with the clay and then spread it to other places. Another annoyance seems to be the rate at which the object appears, which is quite frequent.

The Lump Of Clay’s Purpose In The Sims

Mold It Or Sell It?

Lumps of clay can be used by Sims characters to mold various objects: a replica of the Eiffel Tower, a geometric star-like shape, a sphere with sticks pointing out of the top and bottom, a rabbit, or a tea kettle. The problem is that all but one of these objects fails to serve any gameplay purpose if players do not have the Businesses & Hobbies expansion, with the star-like shape granting Focused +1. Otherwise, they are only cosmetic decorations.

Players with the entrepreneurial adventure The Sims 4: Businesses & Hobbies expansion pack can open a pottery business and sell crafts made from the clay, however. The Pottery skill added in the expansion can also be developed by molding clay.

If players do not want the clay objects, they can be sold for money, but clay drops so frequently that its very existence can be annoying. While players are clamoring for features like more voice packs to come to The Sims 4, it seems like some fans would just enjoy a feature to disable clay drops.

Though the clay can be annoying at times, it has provided many a Sims character with some brief entertainment, and thankfully, there is a better use for the clay in the Businesses & Hobbies expansion. Several players have turned towards installing various Sims 4 community mods, some of disable the appearance of the clay object.

With various mods to disable the clay, and with a new purpose in the expansion, it’s at least possible to manage the annoyance that clay creates, even if it requires outside modding. The problem isn’t that clay exists in The Sims 4, it’s that it pops up everywhere, and some players are ready to delete on sight.
