SNL Cold Open and Weekend Update Anger Trump Supporters

This week, Saturday Night Live pokes fun at President Donald Trump once again. And, naturally, his loyal supporters are fighting back.

The long-running sketch comedy show has become known for teasing the current President of the United States. Viewers can expect him to pop up in some way almost every week. Last night’s episode (November 15, 2025) was no different. Saturday Night Live’s cold open and its popular Weekend Update segment relentlessly mocked Trump and almost every controversy he was involved in this month.

The cold open depicted a press conference about the Epstein files, where Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, was answering questions. However, Trump eventually showed up to “defend” himself. When asked about why he wouldn’t just release the documents, he replied with, “If there was something incriminating about me in the files, then why would I cover them up?” Then he followed up with, “If I was innocent, wouldn’t I just release all the files?

This didn’t sit right with Trump’s supporters. Many made their opinions known about Saturday Night Live’s portrayal of him and Leavitt. One user said that the show wasn’t funny at all, “SNL is pathetic!! A bunch of communist losers!!” Someone added, Sick, sad state of comedy.” Others took a jab at the show’s audience along with the cast, “James Austin Johnson looks more like a stretched out Barney Rubble with Constipation worries than Donald Trump. You would think that the left would get tired of the same old refrain but I guess not. What a truly horrible existence they must have to have this much hate in them.

The Weekend Update segment made fun of Trump’s feud with the BBC over his January 6 speech being altered in a documentary it released. Michael Che presented SNL’s version of his speech and called it the real, unedited, “fully accurate version of it. The video spliced a few short clips of him from his address and combined them to make him say: “Everyone knows I went down on Bill Clinton.”

Obviously, this wasn’t well-received by his loyalists either. Supporters flooded social media, calling Saturday Night Live useless: “SNL HAS LONG OUTLIVED ITS WORTH.” Another insulted SNL’s cast and writers’ intelligence, stating that Trump was far smarter than they would ever be. “It’s so funny when they refer to Trump with dementia since he is so much smarter and clear thinking than anyone on this show, including Lorne Michaels! Trump is negotiating world peace and reordering the economy while they write and act out mediocre junior high skits.”

Saturday Night Live airs every Saturday at 11:30 PM ET and 8:30 PM PT on NBC.
