Though the common assumption is that Solo Leveling season 3 isn’t coming until 2028, series producer Atsushi Kaneko just teased that the series may be returning sooner than anyone thought.
In a post on Atsushi Kaneko’s personal X account, the acclaimed Solo Leveling producer teased that “I know what the world is waiting for, but I want it to wait a little longer.” Accompanying the cryptic message is an image of Pepe frog wearing Atsushi Kaneko-themed attire with the phrase “Grateful fOOkin’ happy news.”
Why Atsushi Kaneko’s Post Has Solo Leveling Fans Absolutely Buzzing
Atsushi Kaneko is an acclaimed producer who has worked on incredibly popular anime such as Solo Leveling, Sword Art Online, and Angel Beats!. He’s worked mostly with A-1 Pictures, the production studio behind the former two anime mega-hits.
While Kaneko’s comments could easily apply just as much to Sword Art Online, many fans are speculating that his post is referencing Solo Leveling.
Though it’s possible Kaneko could be referencing a revival for either series, or even that he’s teasing a different project unrelated to any big franchise, the possibility that Solo Leveling season 3 could be teased or announced soon is the most exciting outcome for most fans.
Famously, Solo Leveling producer Sota Furuhashi said that he wanted Solo Leveling season 3 production to wait until after the Olympics, hinting at a 2028 or even 2029 release date for the beloved anime. Though this notably only reflected Furuhashi’s desire for time, and wasn’t a reflection of A-1 Pictures’ intent.
Given the potential for a 3 or 4 year gap between the end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3, fans have been absolutely frothing at the mouth in anticipation of any news about Solo Leveling season 3. Some have even called Solo Leveling season 3’s potential delay an awful decision.
Fans Are Probably Getting Solo Leveling Season 3 Sooner Than They Think
Given that Kaneko’s post teased something that “the world is waiting for” all signs point to news of Solo Leveling season 3 dropping sooner rather than later.
Though there might have been a time when season 3 of the series was planned for a 2028 or 2029 release, it’s also possible that the intense popularity of Solo Leveling, coupled with pressure from parties like Crunchyroll, has lit a fire under A-1 Pictures to keep the series’ popularity alive with a new season sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately, nothing is confirmed at this time, so fans will just have to wait for Atsushi Kaneko to drop his Grateful fOOkin’ happy news. While all signs point to Solo Leveling season 3’s confirmation, the release date will be what really matters.
