Spy x Family Finally Improves Its Most Controversial Character With Some Much Needed Development

For many years, Spy x Family’s Yuri Briar has been a point of contention for fans of the hit franchise. While Yor’s brother is a hilarious and brilliant antagonist, quickly becoming one of Loid’s biggest threats, he often catches criticism for his obsessive behavior toward his sister. Yuri’s love for Yor goes beyond sibling affection and can become outright uncomfortable.

This is why it’s a pleasant surprise that the series seems to be working on addressing his flaws, as proven in chapter #114 of the manga. After spending an evening with his sister and realizing that she has other people whom she cares about in her life, Yuri was left wondering what to do with his life. Tatsuya Endo, the author of the series, might want to help Yuri grow and leave behind his problematic attitudes.

The Man Seemingly Accepts His Sister Loves Other People

In chapter #114 of the Spy x Family manga, Yor and Yuri get together to spend an evening together after not seeing each other for many weeks. Throughout the night, Yor commented on objects that she wanted to buy for her family, making her brother jealous of not being the one receiving her attention. Later, as they dine together, the assassin talks about how happy Loid and Anya make her. Her comments only make Yuri act even more aggressively, causing both to be kicked out.

Yor, slightly annoyed at his attitude, reminded him that he would always be her little brother and thanked him for being there for her during their tragic past as revealed earlier in Spy x Family. The siblings have a short but sweet talk about their life together and part ways, with Yor going back home to her family and Yuri returning to his empty apartment. Alone, he contemplates what he should do about his life now that his sister has other people whom she loves. For many years, Yuri made it his mission to become an outstanding citizen and keep her sister safe from danger.

Spy x Family Deepened Its Lore With One Small Detail that Has Big Implications

Spy x Family has kept one small but incredibly significant detail hidden from fans for several months, despite its importance.

Yet, as time has passed, he has been left behind by the most important person in his life, making him wonder if he made the right decision. Yuri was suddenly interrupted by the ringing of his phone, revealing that his coworkers wanted to know if he was available to go have a few drinks with them. The chapter ends on a hopeful note, with Yuri accepting his new reality and going out with his friends for what is implied to be the first time in many years.

Yuri Might Be Willing To Change His Behavior

A New Chapter Could Begin for This Character

Despite the controversy, Yuri is one of the best cast members the Spy x Family franchise has to offer. Not only is he among the most intelligence and capable Spy x Family characters, but the chapters that revolve around him tend to be either hilarious or action-packed. It is this reason why so many readers lamented his unfortunate attitude towards his sister, as it made it hard to want to support him. After the events of chapter #114, it might be possible that Yuri’s behavior will begin slowly changing, making his appearance significantly less awkward.

This could also be amazing news for Loid, as a less jealous Yuri would have no reason to accuse or suspect him without good reason. With the State Security Service officer no longer studying his every move, the spy would have a much easier time focusing on the success of Operation Strix. However, the character who would benefit the most from Yuri leaving behind his obsession with Yor would be Chloe, his partner and the one who Spy x Family fans believe will help fix his behavior, as her crush on the man could finally be reciprocated.

Still, Yuri laments the fact that he has to lie to his sister and wishes he could be more honest with her. Endo might be hinting that Yuri will be the first character to reveal his big secret.
