Sridevi Starrer Goes Grossly Overbudget

By A Correspondent

Boney Kapoor is known to make big-budgeted films that go grossly over-budget. When he launched his youngest brother Sanjay Kapoor in Prem, the film dragged on for four years and underwent a  major directorial change from Shekhar Kapoor to Satish Kaushik. Everyone  knows about the over-budgeting  of Boney’s Sridevi-Anil Kapoor starrer Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. Said to be the Mother Of All Flops, it was producer Boney Kapoor’s financial waterloo that nearly put him out of business.

When it comes to his dear darling wife Sridevi’s career , Boney ,known to be an extravagant producer, could hardly be expected to cut corners .

Sure enough Boney has gone all-out to ensure Mom, Sridevi’s first Hindi film since the influential English Vinglish hits all the right notes.

Says a source, “Originally Mom was planned as a raw real gritty rape-and-revenge saga about a mother’s retaliation  to her daughter’s rape. But as the shooting progressed Boneydecided to pull put all stops to give the film a look of optimum gloss. Parts  of the film were shot in Georgia though the script demanded no such destination-shooting.”

Apparently Boney has taken the film way beyond its original budget, making it one of the most expensive Sridevi starrers ever.

The crucial question now is, can Sridevi in Mom pull in the crowds as she did  for EnglishVinglish? We shall know in July.
