After Adam Driver’s shocking Star Wars bombshell about The Hunt for Ben Solo, fans are demanding that Disney resurrect the project. Driver revealed that he and director Steven Soderbergh spent two years working on a movie that would have revived Ben Solo after The Rise of Skywalker‘s ending. Soderbergh and Rebecca Blunt outlined the story and Scott Z. Burns wrote the script.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, vice president Carrie Beck, and chief creative officer Dave Filoni “loved the idea”, but the project was scrapped after being presented to Disney CEO Bob Iger and co-chairman Alan Bergman, who “didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive.”
Now, fans have taken to social media to demand that Disney make the project a reality again. Check out some of the reactions below:
@balancedpadawan argues that since the franchise is “about wrestling with the dark and the chance for redemption,” it needs Adam Driver back as Ben Solo, and the scrapped movie would have been the perfect project to make this happen.
@RosaLynaLerman insists that Disney greenlight The Hunt for Ben Solo, emphasizing Driver’s love for the character and all the work that he and the movie’s creative team already put into the project.
@TheStarWarsAcad points out that with practically all fans wanting The Hunt for Ben Solo to happen, this is the first time the fandom has been united in a long while, “it shouldn’t be swept under the rug”, and puts out a call for the franchise to bring back Ben Solo.
@reylobalance encourages fans to “BE LOUD” and go to Iger and Bergman’s Instagram accounts to let them know that there is widespread interest in the movie being made.
@StarWarShipper highlights the need for Disney to make The Hunt for Ben Solo by saying “Disney bring her boy home!” alongside a GIF of Leia Organa saying she wants Ben back in The Force Awakens.
There is a full slate of Star Wars movies already in the works, with the next two being The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is in post-production and releasing in 2026, and Starfighter, which is in production and coming to theaters in 2027.
Other movies are in development, including a Rey Skywalker story from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a trilogy of films from Simon Kinberg, a Filoni movie set during the New Republic era, and James Mangold’s movie set 25,000 years before the prequels in the Star Wars timeline.
Despite this robust slate, given the fan outcry following Driver’s reveal of The Hunt for Ben Solo, there is a chance that Disney could resurrect the movie and reverse their earlier decision. Lucasfilm is already fleshing out the post-Rise of Skywalker timeline with Starfighter, several of the movies in development, and the new novel The Last Order by Kwame Mbalia.
The Hunt for Ben Solo has a better chance of happening now that Star Wars fans know about the project and have largely united in an effort to revive it. Chances of it happening may also increase if The Mandalorian and Grogu performs well at the box office and makes Disney confident in further expanding their theatrical slate.
