Raj Kummar Rao Speaks To Subhash K Jha On Kangana, Mental Hai Kya,Patralekhaa & Other Stress In His Life.
Mental Hai Kya the title has raised quite a ruckus. The film brings you back together with Ms Kangana Ranaut after Queen . how much has your equation with her changed between then and now?
I was just starting out at that time and she was always very sweet to me and she still is. Kangana is one of the finest talents we have. It’s always great fun when you work with someone so talented. We gel really well whenever we are together on set. She is very passionate about her work and that’s very motivating….It’s an edgy entertaining thriller. It talks about two very interesting characters. Can’t tell you much about the story line but all I can say is it’s a very interesting genre.
Raj, last year was extraordinarily rewarding for you . Do you feel equally fulfilled this year?
Both 2017-2018 were very fulfilling and I feel very good about this year too but honestly I feel very happy about working and acting everyday and to create these new different characters in such wonderful stories. This year it was Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga which is such an important film in today’s times then I have Mental Hai Kya and finally Made in China which am really really excited about.
Actors like you , Ayushmann Khurran and Vicky Kaushal are seen as the neo-superstars of Hindi cinema. do you agree?
We all are doing some very interesting work and so are many other actors of our industry. I am just very happy that lot of different and real films happening now. I have always believed in stories and content and even our audiences are welcoming these stories now and that’s what we want as makers.
How has the newly acquired stardom changed you? Do you find you’ve less time to spend with your loved ones?
It hasn’t changed me at all .The only thing that has changed is life is way more busy now than earlier. My loved ones understand my work duties and as long as Love is there there won’t be any complaints I guess but I make sure that I spend a lot of time with my loved ones. Whenever am not working I dedicate all my time to them.
Saw Patralekhaa in Badnaam Gali and she was so honest in her performance.When do we see the two of you together again on screen?
She was brilliant in Badnaam Gali and she has another really good film starting soon now. We’re waiting for something exciting to come our way. We both make our own choices and we both have to like the story and our respective parts in it to say yes to a story. Lot of people loved us inCityLights, where she was the best in the film. I hope something very interesting shapes up soon.
What is the status of Stree 2 are you in it ?
Oh yes, am in it. We’re taking about it for a while now and it’s definitely in the pipeline. Hopefully you will hear the announcement soon.
