I had imagined certain things, but it has gone to a level where it’s beyond my wildest imagination. Says Ranveer Singh

Actor Ranveer Singh says that the success he has achieved is beyond his ‘wildest imagination’ — and he wants to thank the universe by giving it his all

Since his debut with Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), he has risen rapidly to stardom in Bollywood. Right now, Ranveer Singh is riding high on the critical acclaim (for playing Alauddin Khilji) and box-office success (the film has joined the ₹300 crore club) of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat. The actor admits that the fame and success he has achieved is far beyond what he imagined.

“If you ask me, ‘Did you imagine all of this when you thought of becoming an actor?’ I would say, ‘I had imagined certain things, but it has gone to a level where it’s beyond my wildest imagination.’ I never thought that these things would happen to me,” says Ranveer. “Now that I’m blessed with these opportunities, the best thing I can do is to give them my all.”

He did aim high even as a newbie — the actor always “had this one big dream of becoming a mainstream actor and doing the best films”. And now that’s exactly where he is.

“But how can I possibly give back to the universe and repay it for the blessings?” he muses. “I feel I can do that by just doing my very best, giving every inch and every ounce of myself to that one thing I always wanted and have now been blessed with,” he says.

The Bajirao Mastani (2015) actor goes on to add that he is “committed to being the best person” that he can “possibly be”. “I want to give my all to the opportunities that I always dreamt of and are coming my way. For me, it’s a form of prayer,” says Ranveer, while pointing out how Bhansali loves to work all the time.

“You know, be it a festival, holiday or something else, Bhansali sir doesn’t want any break. He just wants to be on the set. He says, ‘There is no bigger puja than this.’ And that’s something I have learnt from him. To be honest and sincere in one’s work is the biggest divine offering. Karma is indeed dharma,” says the actor, adding that he has “received lots of blessings”.

Ranveer is, at present, busy shooting for Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy. “Zoya and I really get each other. I’m connected with her on a personal level. We speak to each other openly, and are absolutely honest with each other. For me, that’s a unique dynamic. She holds a very special place in my heart,” he says.
