Sudhir Mishra’s Daas Dev Ready To Hit Theatres On 9th March 2018

MUMBAI – February 2nd 2018 – Directed by Sudhir Mishra, presented by Storm Pictures and produced by Saptarishi Cinevision Production announces the release of its next film Daas Dev on 9th March 2018.

The film follows a path contrary to the plot of the classic novel Devdas. But is a fiercely political film that talks about the protagonist’s addiction. The movie’s premise is novel in a way that it is a reverse story of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Devdas dipped inShakespearean influences. If Devdas was a journey from a noble person to a ‘Das’, this is a journey from ‘Das’, a person who is a slave to his addictions and to the dynastic ambitions of his family to ‘Dev’. Set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh, ‘Daas Dev’ is a film about power, love and addiction.

The film stars Richa Chadha as ParoAditi Rao Hydari as Chandni and Rahul Bhat as Dev. The film also features power packed performances from Vineet SinghSaurabh Shukla and Vipin SharmaAnurag Kashyap will be seen in a guest appearance in the film.

Sudhir Mishra, known for his critically-acclaimed movies like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Yeh Saali Zindagi and Chameli said, “We started with one of my friend telling me why you don’t do Dev Das? I started working on it with a fellow writer and suddenly things started changing. I started feeling that Hamlet and Devdas were similar stories and then the Indian political situations came up and it became like a reverse journey of Devdas. I took the three characters of Devdas; Dev, Paro, and Chandramukhi. As I was working, Shakespeare intruded and I allowed him to. Ultimately it became a film about power as it gets in the way of love. I am glad that finally my film has a release date i.e 9th March 2018 and all the hard work that my team has put in will be paid off”.

Presenter, Gaurav Sharma (Storm Pictures) said, “It gives us at Storm Pictures great pleasure to have joined hands with Sudhir Mishra and Saptarishi Cinevision Productions to conclude the journey of DaasDev and to bring it to theatres. To us, Daasdev is a relevant film in today’s day and age which makes a resounding statement and entertains in the same breath and we are sure that on the 9th of March,2018 the movie watching audiences of this country will feel the same way about the film as we did when we first watched it”.

Producer, Sanjeev Kumar (Saptarishi Cinevision Production) said, “When I heard the story from Sudhir Ji, I could instantly connect to his vision of the iconic characters – Devdaas, Paro and Chandramukhi set in the contemporary period. Being a student of literature, if I had to visualize these characters in 2018, I would also perhaps have thought on similar lines. And we all know the kind of cinema Sudhir ji is known for. So I feel we have a solid product in our hand and I would love to begin my journey in the industry by endorsing such a powerful and thought provoking subject. Coincidentally the political background of the film also resonated with the way I understand politics”.

Aditi Rao Hydari said, “My character Chandni redefines the iconic character Chandramukhi as an empowered woman of this generation, a woman who is not confined by rules. Her inherent goodness, strength and ability to do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done will reach out to women across India. Women who want to live their lives on their terms without being judged, who are unapologetic of who they are, who they strive to be and what they want from life. Women who are the masters of their destiny and who embrace the conflicts within them and celebrate themselves. With Sudhir Mishra helming this unique and powerful film, Daasdev has been a very challenging experience for me. Working alongside incredibly talented actors is always inspiring. I have found each moment of this journey enriching and have hopefully learnt and imbibed a lot as an actor!”

Rahul Bhat said, “Daasdev is the journey of Dev who fights all addictions including his addiction to power which is the most dangerous addiction to complete an arch and finally transform him from being a Das to becoming a Dev”.
