Sullivan's Crossing Season 4’s Liam Can Fix Maggie and Cal's Romance

Although the season 3 finale’s big revelations were dramatic, Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 needs to use this major twist to end the show’s weakest storyline. Based on the novel series of the same name by Virgin River author Robyn Carr, Sullivan’s Crossing is a small-town CW drama that has soared to the top of Netflix’s streaming charts.

As the wait for Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 continues, it is hard for fans not to worry about the future of its central couple. Throughout the first three seasons of Sullivan’s Crossing, Morgan Kohan’s independent Maggie and Chad Michael Murray’s sensitive widower Cal faced various impediments that stalled their romantic relationship, despite the couple’s chemistry.

Maggie’s Secret Husband Has To Change Her Relationship With Cal In Sullivans’s Crossing Season 4

The Couple Have Been Making Up and Breaking Up For Three Seasons Now

Just when Sullivan’s Crossing’s season 3 finale seemed to finally give the couple a break, chaos once again visited the duo in the form of Maggie’s secret husband. Hitherto only mentioned in passing as a “Summer fling,” the previously unseen Liam appeared in the titular town and announced that he and Maggie were marries, much to the couple’s chagrin.

This is just the latest of many setbacks Maggie and Cal have faced, although it is undoubtedly the most dramatic and serious problem they’ve had to tackle so far. Maggie and Cal either need to break up over this revelation or work through it and settle down for good, as their never-ending “Will they, won’t they” dynamic is now dead tired.

Sullivan’s Crossing Season 4 Can’t Sustain Another Love Triangle

Cal Maggie and Andrew Already Weathered This Tired Soap Opera Tradition

While viewers search for a Sullivan’s Crossing replacement and wait for the series to return to screens, the Carr adaptation needs to provide a stronger storyline for its central couple than just another love triangle. Longtime viewers will remember that Maggie and Cal had already faced a similar quandary, albeit without the secret marriage, when Andrew showed up.

At this point, Maggie and Cal have gotten together, broken up, tried to be friends, and gotten back together, as well as navigating Maggie’s messy relationship with Andrew, all in the time since she moved to the eponymous small town. If their relationship already comes with this much baggage, it might be time to call it quits.

However, plenty of fans sincerely love the pair’s chemistry and only want the best for Maggie and Cal, meaning Sullivan’s Crossing might keep them together instead. The question of whether they break up is actually less important than the reality that the show needs to make a decision one way or the other, so Sullivan’s Crossing season 4 can finally, mercifully move on.
