Sunny Deol’s Career Hits Rock-Bottom After Family Film Fails

When all fails, there is always the family to fall back on. But in the once-illustrious Sunny Deol’s case even the huge family name with the legendary patriarch Dharmendra to prop up his comeback, has not helped Sunny’s career.

On the contrary, amla Pagla Deewana Phir Se has brought down the entire Deol family’s equity, specially patriarch Dharmendra whose formidable reputation has been tainted by his unruly character of a flirtatious lawyer.

“Where is the dignity in this role and character that one expects from an actor of Dharmendra’s stature?” asks a leading filmmaker, a diehard fan of the iconic actor. For Dharmendra’s younger son  Bobby Deol, this is the second setback in a row after the Salman starrer Race 3 which was a huge disappointment. Bobby comeback is now officially aborted.

But the severest hit is the eldest Deol scion Sunny Deol who at one point in his career was one of Bollywood’s top draws. Today his career is in a shambles. Sunny last 5 films — Anil Sharma’s Singh Saab The Great, Sanamjit Singh Talwar’s Dishkiyaon, Radhika Rao-Vinay Sapru’s I Love New Year, Sunny Deol’s self-directed Ghayal Once Again and now Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se — have all been unmitigated disasters.

And now a huge question mark hangs over Sunny Deol’s next release Bhaiyyaji Superhit. Slated for release on October, the film apparently has no major buyers to come forward and bail out the troubled leading man’s career.

What a sad sorry dead end for a star who gave such all-time hits as Betaab, Ghayal, Gadar, and Border.

According to a trade analyst, “Bhaiyaji Superhit is a DOA project (dead on arrival). Sunny’s career needs the miraculous intervention of Rohit Shetty or Karan JoharBhaiyaji Superhit pairs him with the down-and-out Preity Zinta. The film is a dead project even before release.”
