‘Takopi’s Original Sin’ Took Over 2 Years to Complete 6 Episodes

In a recently shared production note for Takopi’s Original Sin anime, it was revealed that this adaptation, with only 6 episodes, took over 2 years to produce. Its planning began way back in 2022, and from then on, with subtle changes in production structures, the final product was completed only days before its release in the Summer 2025 season.

Some of the core staff members were so heavily involved in the anime’s production that they could not take a single break for two whole years. Reportedly, some were even almost burned out by the end.

Now, this is particularly rare in the anime industry, where overly long production time often leads to devastating outcomes. But Takopi’s Original Sin didn’t suffer such a tragedy.

It never dipped in quality throughout its entire runtime, not even for a single frame. For the kind of story it had to convey, this level of perfection was a mandate for the newly established studio Enishiya. Sure, they cut it close by the end, but it also made it clear that no studio is immune to these issues, especially when a project carries such high ambitions.

Each Takopi’s Original Sin Episode Has a Near-Perfect Rating

History has been made. With each of its episodes having an above-9 rating on IMDb, Takopi’s Original Sin is now one of its kind. Even apart from IMDb, other sites like MyAnimeList and AniList also have the show rated significantly higher than any other series you’d come across. This shows how the 2 years’ worth of hard work paid off for the creators.

EPISODE TITLE RATINGS (IMDb)
Episode 1: “To You in 2016 9.5/10
Episode 2: “Takopi’s Salvation 9.6/10
Episode 3: “Takopi’s Confession 9.3/10
Episode 4: “Azuma-kun’s Salvation 9.5/10
Episode 5: “To You in 2022 9.7/10 (Highest-rated episode)
Episode 6: “To All of You in 2016 9.4/10

The production quality this short anime series provides is simply awe-inspiring. The studio perfectly encapsulated author Taizan 5’s uncanny, eerie art style to the core. But they must have also felt extra pressure undertaking this project.

Even still, the whole adaptation more than lived up to all expectations. Not only was the animation outstanding, but the direction, soundtrack, and overall atmosphere of the series were also nailed perfectly by the studio. This was only possible because of the team behind this project that worked so hard to bring it to life.

The Vision the Creators Had When Undertaking This Project

Even though the core idea for the anime was set early on, straight from the manga, the studio wished to add a little more nuance to the storyline. The plan was to take a more Shizuka-focused approach, allowing viewers to observe things like parental neglect and bullying from a child’s perspective.

But in the end, what we got was something different: a story told with the camera much closer to the titular alien. Its naivety yet strangely admirable optimism became the lens through which we experienced it all.

This shift matched the team’s goal perfectly. They wanted to sprinkle in glimmers of hope right from the start. Sure, Takopi is, at its heart, an uplifting tale, but it’s easy to forget that when you’re caught up in the string of often heartbreaking events that lead to that ending. Wouldn’t you agree?

Takopi’s Original Sin anime is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
