There is a strong rumour doing the rounds that that all work in the Tamil film industry will come to a grinding halt from November 1.This is what The Tamil Film Producers Council has apparently decided. At a meeting on July 29 the Tamil Film Producers Council put forward several grievances on behalf of the Tamil film industry including the steep star wages, the premature streaming of new Tamil releases on OTT without a decent gap and the low payment for technicians.
This writer spoke to several luminaries in the film industry. Says actor-director-choreographer Prabhu Deva, “The situation seems to be like that only. But what is going to happen, nobody knows.”
When this writer contacted Sudha Kongara asking whether the Tamil film industry would actually come to a standstill in November filmmaker Ms Kongara ( who directed Soorarai Pottru and its Hindi remake Sarfira) said, “That’s what the Council has decided. Talks for a settlement are on. I don’t know what will happen. I am hoping for some resolution fast.”
