Tapsee, Saqib Saleem In A Tear-Jerker Music Video

It’s not easy being in love. The new music video showcasing  another love ballad composed by Amaal Malikshows the very endearing Tapsee Pannu and Saqib Saleem as childhood sweethearts who grow up so much in love they can’t stop singing the same melody Tum ho toh lagta hai even when  they are way past the age of teenybopper romancing.

To their credit Tapsee Pannu and Saqib Saleem, specially the former, pull off the janam-janam ka song  with conviction. Director Aleya Sen strings together moments between the two showing the girl to be passionately devoted to furthering the boy’s ambitions as a painter, from hardselling his sketches on the pavement ,to making him do situps on the Goan street as punishment for teasing her, to  seeing him off on a bus that takes him away from her to further his ambitions.

Sketches from a romance so delicate wispy it could be just a dream.

The boy basks in the attention. There is no attempt to try and understand the girl’s dreams in the elegantly shot video. Does the girl have any ambitions besides dreaming  for her boyfriend’s future?

The video ends on a rather cruelly high-pitched note when the girl dies while cycling home to meet the love of her life. It’s an unnecessarily melodramatic treatment of a fairly hummable tune bolstered by Tapsee’s sunny presence.

Says the actress, “I did this music video  for the kind of people associated with it.The song is composed byAmaal Malik who has become a name in no time. Shaan  has sung the number. His voice is synonymous with romance. It all seemed very tempting. And I am glad I did it . I had loads of fun shooting the video. The director Aleya Sen knew was she was doing. And my co-star Saqib and I hit it off from the word go.”
