HGTV star Tarek El Moussa is looking a little different these days, leading some to believe he’s had plastic surgery. That’s not the case, however, as the “Flipping 101” star revealed the secrets of his transformation: lifestyle changes and skin treatments.

HGTV Star Adopted Lifestyle Changes

During an April 2025 interview with Fox News Digital, El Moussa noted how his appearance has changed as a result of his fitness journey.

“You know, a lot of people have been telling me lately I look different, like I got plastic surgery, or I’m wearing a toupee,” he said. “But here’s what I did. I grew out my hair, and about four years ago I decided to start going to the gym every single day, not to get in shape or not to be on a diet, but to make it a part of my lifestyle.”

El Moussa went on to share how being diagnosed with cancer changed his outlook on his health.

“I completely changed my lifestyle about four years ago, and I’m so happy I did because I’m now almost 44 years old, and I’m reaping all of those benefits,” he noted. “I wasn’t only diagnosed with one cancer, it turned out in my early 30s I had two cancers.”

The HGTV star added, “The scariest part for me was not knowing if I was going to live or die, because at the time I was young, I had a family, I had my daughter, Taylor, and the scariest thing was not knowing if I was going to be around to raise my baby.”

El Moussa is now cancer-free.

Tarek El Moussa Shared His Secrets for Looking Youthful

In an April 2025 interview with the Page Six “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast, El Moussa discussed his physical changes, pointing out how he’s in better shape now and has also grown out his hair.

“I got PRP injections in my head, which caused my hair to grow in fuller, so my hair is looking fuller and I grew out my hair,” he noted. “So that’s one thing.”

The HGTV star went on to share how skin treatments have made a huge difference in his appearance. “Heather sends me to this place every six weeks,” El Moussa said about his wife. “One time they stabbed me with needles, the other six weeks they fry it with a laser.”

He continued, “And then I rotate every six weeks … and that’s why my skin looks better.”

El Moussa added, “And then I do Botox to freeze it so I don’t get as many wrinkles.”

“So it’s exercise, diet, Botox,” he noted.
