But not so great news for Ajay Devgan and RandeepHooda, for, Akshay plays Havaldar Ishar Singh , the military commander of  21 Sikh soldiers during British India who on 12 September 1897  during what came to be famously known as the Battle Of  Saragarhi led his men through a deathly  battle against thousands of Afghani invaders.

Devgan and  Hooda are also expected to  play the same valorous Sikh  character IsharSingh in ambitious epic projects that were announced last year. Devgan’s  film entitled Sons Of Sardar Battle Of Saragarhi was announced by the actor-producer-director as his next big project after Shivaay.

But with Shivaay underperforming at the boxoffice, the budget required to make this epic historical may prove prohibitive for Devgan . But  sources say Devgan is determined to make the film, come what may.

Raj Kumar Santoshi’s proposed film on the Battle Of Sargarhi  with Randeep Hoodanever went beyond an announcement. It is likely to join the long list of shelved Santoshi films in recent years.

Akshay’s affinity to  the Sikh community and to playing turbaned heroes is well known. He has starred in Singh Is Kiing and Singh Is Bling as a Sardaarji.

“I love playing Sikh characters. I identify very closely with the community’s ideals of courage honesty, hard work and transparency in one’s dealings,” says Akshay.[tooltip type=”box” html=”Input Your Content Here” box_background_color=”#eeeeee” box_opacity=”0.95″ box_padding=”10″ box_border_color=”#3F3F3F” box_border_width=”1″ box_border_radius=”0″ id=”88b6af99531f838ed90aed058b7d870a” /][tooltip type=”box” html=”Salman Khan Bollywood Actor” box_background_color=”#eeeeee” box_opacity=”0.95″ box_padding=”10″ box_border_color=”#3F3F3F” box_border_width=”1″ box_border_radius=”0″ id=”c1b465420d07c688942ed18eadfd9f92″ /]
