Tapsee Pannu who is rightly upset about her unceremonious ouster from the Pati Patni Aur Woh remake , can seek comfort in her predecessors who have been similarly deserted at the last moment.
The classic example is the timeless Raakhee Gulzar who was signed and all set to play the lead in Rituparno Ghosh’s Bariwali when all of sudden, overnight , she was replaced by Kirron Kher.Raakhee even had her clothes stitched and ready for the first schedule when, like Tapsee, she read in the papers that she had been replaced .
But coming back to the present, what really prompted the grandsons of the legendary B R Chopra and the sons of the universally liked Ravi Chopra, to act in this unprofessional way?
According to a source in the know, this was all done within a day or two because the producers wanted a teenybopper threesome to play the three main roles.
“When Juno Chopra(that’s B R Chopra’s grandson) approached Tapsee and finalized her for the wife’s role(played in the original by Vidya Sinha) they were looking at another cast altogether. It was meant to be a story of an adulterous man married for many years. But then they got Kartik Aryan and Ananya Pandey on board, so the wife had also had to be the teenybopper types,” informs a knowledgeable source.
We don’t know how convincing Bhumi Pednekar would be in the wife’s role. But this is not the Pati Patni Aur Woh that B R Chopra had made.
As the source quipped, “They want to make a Student Of The Year type of teenybopper romance out of the original marital comedy. This is like doing a serious disservice to the original.”
